Here are Van's answers to the Facebook Q&A we posted a couple days ago.
Jimmy Myers well first off, vans a badass. we all watch any of your video sections to get motivated to go ride. what videos or video sections motivate you to go ride, or manual a kinked rail?
Van Homan Thanks! I got a lot of my motivation from some of the early vids like 1201, Broken, Lights Out and some of the early props. Jamie Thomas in Welcome to Hell was a huge inspiration for some of my first video sections. I'm not sure exactly where it came from but I really just wanted to put out the best parts I could. I didn't want to have any filler. If it didn't scare me or take me a ton of tries then I didn't want you use the clip. That's the way I looked at it.
Angel Ramos are you ever gonna or did you go back and icepick the rail you tore your ass on in the props bio/interview?
Van Homan The last time I was at that rail the top half of it was missing. It would have actually made for a really crazy gap to rail. I haven't been there in years so I don't know what the set up is like now. I have to admit I would be stressing to try that again. No plans but never say never. Funny fact though, that crash was in a Slim Jim commercial and the school that it was at tried to sue props, Slim Jim and myself. It didn't work out for them.

Zack Barre whats your favorite fit product
Van Homan All the Fit American made frames in general are the best. Not too many people are able to mass produce frames in the states and the overseas stuff just isn't proving itself to be on the same level as far as quality goes.

Janis Chunchulis Have your dreams come true?
Van Homan Yeah man. I'm happy and healthy it's a dream come true!
Brady Erickson hey van. i was wondering what your current bike setup is. and if you have ever or will ever want to go breaklessÂ
Van Homan I'm running the Fit Lurch right now. It's a 21" top tube and has a bit of a longer back end. I like the long back end because it feels more stable especially if I'm riding high speed trails of parks. I'm working on a new frame now though and I might try and little bit shorter back end. The boys in the shop are working on a prototype now. No plans to go brakeless but never say never.
Mark Fanella what would you do if your were not riding for a living and is this something you always wnated to do or being a pro rider just kinda of happened?
Van Homan It's hard to tell man. I've been riding so long that it's hard to guess. Riding is such a big part of my life. It just sort of happened. I really just wanted to ride and travel and the next thing I knew someone was paying for me to do it! I can't even say it was a dream come true because it was better than anything I could have dreamt up.
Zach McCullough Van you are one of my favorite riders of all time!! what are we to expect out of you in later years to come? are you going to be same ol' Van who goes all out or are you going to settle down?
Van Homan I still feel motivated so I'm just going to keep doing my thing. It's hard to keep up with these kids but I'm not really trying to. I'm just going to be me and where ever that takes me so be it. I'll do my best to keep bringing the heat.
Christian Worth Heyo Van how do you feel about the bmx industry now compared to back when you were growing up Hit me back
Van Homan It's good in a lot of ways. The industry is controlled by the riders a lot more now. Bmxers grew up and started bike companies, magazines, made videos, etc. We still have a ways to go but I think it's on the right track.Â
Joseph Gocek Your are the most influential street rider of all time. Did you get that whip over the stairs and fence from stay fit on the first try? How do you manage to continuously put out rediculous video parts?
Van Homan Wow Thanks man. That whip took three tries. The first two I couldn't keep my feet on and my legs got sucked up under the pedals. Didn't feel great but it wasn't too bad so I was able to keep it going till I stuck it. I just keep seeing set ups that inspire me. I just can't let things go a lot of the time. I guess that's how I keep putting out video parts. I remember thinking that I was done after my Seek and Destroy part. I was like man I gave it all I have I don't think I can top it. You just keep finding new inspiration and keep pushing yourself in different directions.Â
Matt Zahn Hey Van. You are one of my favorite riders of all time. I was just wondering you have made to such a high point in the BMX industry and what you did to push yourself?
Van Homan I have just loved BMX since I started. When I get an idea it my head I just want to see it happen. I want to see what it feels like. Like you have the vision but you want to live it.Â
Graham Nelson You have a F***ing Awesome Stay Fit part. What is personally your favorite clip and why?
Van Homan Thanks. I really like the double tire ride to hop over grind on the rail. It's one of those set ups that I just found at a random place. I was shopping with my wife for a fridge or something when I found that. It was always in the back of my mind but it took me a couple years to go back to it. I'm hyped on it the most because I feel like it's unexpected. Like when I jump on the tire ride I don't think people are expecting me to transfer over to the right.
Steven Gonzalez hey van i no theres alot of trash talkers out there hatin on brakes, so sorry but i just wanna no as a rider why do you prefer to continue riding brakes? ps i recently ordered a copy of stay fit and im super stoked to see your part dude i give u major props ur a sick ass bmx'er one of the best in my opinion
Van Homan I have been riding for a long time and have always had brakes. I just feel comfortable with them especially riding trails and parks. I'm not too worried about the trash talkers. I'm just going to do what I do.
Stefan Orand hey, i was wondering how you became pro and i would also like it if you could share any helpful tips to get noticed!
Van Homan I just rode hard and traveled. I never really planed to be a pro it just sort of happened. I would say just ride and go as many places as you can and have fun. Don't try to force it. If it's meant to be it will happen.
Don Delos Santos do you still have a stash of schwinn mean streets somewhere?
Van Homan Ha-ha I saved one to show the grandkids one day.
Brodie Butterfield Van, I want to know how you manage to be one of the most progressive riders out there, run two stores and maintain a solid family life.
Van Homan Thanks. It keeps me busy for sure. Sometimes I feel like I'm spreading myself thin but I just do my best. You can't ride 24/7 and you can't work 24/7 so I just try to have good time management. Good employees and an understanding wife help a lot too.
Olie Swift Van, your part in Little Devils Criminal Mischief was one of the reasons I started riding, So my question is what video part are you most proud of so far??? much love. X
Van Homan Wow it's really hard to say. I am really proud of CM but I feel like my riding has progress so much since then. Hopefully I haven't made the part I'll be most proud of yet.
